Game .5: 17 March 2018 at STA vs. the JV. at 2:00 PM (10-0 with 8:00 to go)

Ok, we had our annual follow-up Blue-Gold (now Navy-Pink) with the basketball girls back.  It also never goes as well as it did this year.  

Here are some extenuating circumstances: 1) every varsity player (except one on the school Rome trip) was back on time—never happens; parents, players thank-you. 2) we only go with one ref in the second game—we may have been offsides a couple of times (although we could have scored more) 3) JV got discouraged as any team would after awhile 4) we are so fast and determined to attack the baseline (are we happy about this—estactic!) a goalie must be aggressive off her line and 5) we only have 16 field players on varsity with a shorter rotation in which all are contributing (this seems like a positive team move).

Well, we can't really know how all of this preseason will translate to regular season right now, but we will find out Thursday night. We are all excited to see as the Blue-Gold venues have promised much.

Freshman, Grace O'Keefe, debuted today, and yes, she doffed the hat, but more importantly, she played with pace, set others up (4 assists) and looked as if she could play any of the 9, 10, 7, 11's. So.

We will need to play our front against our defense more this week to test it more.  The JV (and I promise this is going to be a very very good JV—wait until Thursday) put us in a couple of awkward defensive positions (or we helped put ourselves in them) that worried us some. 

I could go up and down the lineup and compliment that effort yesterday, but hey, it was just blue-gold.  But Bella Bryson is just on a new level this year.  That second half kickoff where she bounded down the sideline, made a move, entered the box, t'eed it perfectly to an on-coming O'Keefe who rang up the top of the bar was jaw-dropping.  And 31 minutes later, dead, did it again only this time with the final O'Keefe ball going in to end the match.

And then there is Janky, and, and . . .
