Hammon's Birthday

Game 2: 24 March, 3:00 in the first round of the Bob Durig Mo-Kan vs. Park Hill (3-0)

I did not do us any favors scheduling Park Hill in round 1.  They were very good.

It was 0-0 with 2 and change left in the first half when Grace O'Keefe (her first varsity goal) hit this amazing shot after a long throw-in from Mallory that would allow us to enter halftime up 1-0, despite being outplayed by Park Hill most of the first half.

And that halftime let us make a few adjustments.  And the girls answered the bell to play a very, very good second half.

BWhite named Co-BWhite Players of the Game in Alex Moss and Allyiah Calvert.  Moss teamed up for the 3rd time this young season with Maggie Ryan on a deadball for the biggest goal of the game—the one that took the score to 2-0.

Alex also put in a tremendous match at centerback, holding a dangerous attack group to zero. Now she had solid help from 5 other defenders and great keeper play, but she had a special game today.

And Allyiah had such an active first half where she saved 4 shots on goal, one that required a full-layout dive to her left. She kicked well against the tough wind as well.

The stat we all need to digest is the number of corners we created for the match. Coaches did not like the fact that we generated only 1 in the first half, but we didn’t create any in the second. Obviously we need to wall up better on the outside of the field. But we also need more overlaps, diagonal runs, give-in-goes, etc.

We did score off 3 more set pieces, but we are going to need a better attack of the baseline if we are going to keep scoring going forward.

We now move on to the semi-finals where we will take on the always-good St. Teresa's. We are a win away from getting back to the Mo-Kan finals and a probable match-up with #3 in the country, Notre Dame de Sion.

STATS:

First Half: Saints: Shots: 3 (2) Corners: 1 (Bryson)

2:44 O'Keefe (Long throw from Heying)

Second Half: Shots: 7 (4) Corners: 0

23:17 Ryan (Moss drops another long deadball into the box)

15:23 Janky (Mallory’s long throw results in a Pigott shot that deflects backward)
