The Finale for Regular Season

Game 16: 7 May at Bishop Miege (5-0)

When you score on deadballs, the score always looks a lot more impressive than it really is.  We did cash 4 deadballs tonight, scoring on two corners and two throw-ins.  We did get one goal from the run-of-play, and for us, that's more of what needs to happen.

Miege always plays us hard, and they continued to play hard even when the score got pretty ugly early.  They have to be the favorite to win 4A again this year.  They are solid all over the field.

BWhite named Grace O'Keefe the BWhite Player of the Match. She has been special at center midfield for some time now, and then tonight she hit two nice shots, both from the trash position on the corner kick.  We need her to start scoring again—tonight she began.

We played everyone, and we played everyone a lot.  Kate Goza honestly probably played the least as she got an early yellow, and with us up 3-0, we really did not have any reason to risk something bad happening.

Megan Whorley had a nice 30 minutes at center midfield second half.  Kate Kutey once again gave us important minutes, subbing in for Goza in the first half. (Gabby had to watch tonight diagnosed with two broken bones in her hand. She and a cast will be back for playoffs. We look for Muckerman to return as well.) And well, Mallory, again, a big piece of 4 goals!

Season Number 2 starts a week from tomorrow. Chapter 3 closed tonight; it will make for some good reading when we come back to take another look at our season.

STATS:

First Half:

Saints:  Shots: 10 (8) Corners: 5 (Kutey, Heying, Bryson, Chalabi, Pigott)

35:44 O'Keefe (Mallory bends it right with Marge flicking it up from that near post into some ricocheting before out to trash)

31:39 Janky (Heying hits the long diagonal ground through-ball that Olivia, runs down, stops, turns on, and crosses)

18:07 Hamm (Heying heaves it through to the back post)

5:48 O'Keefe (Mallory bends the right-footed corner in, that eventually, with a Higgerson touch, scoots back out to trash)

Miege: Shots: 1 (1) Corners: 1

Second Half:

Saints: 7 (3) Corners: 0

26:11 Ryan (Heying heaves her infamous throw that pops out nicely for Maggie)

Stags: Shots: 4 (2) Corners: 0

Saints Travel to SWIDac

Game 15: 3 May, at SWIDac vs. BV Northwest on Murphy Night (4-0)

This match was a lot closer than 4-0. In fact, Nicole McEnroe had to make quite a few saves, a few spectacular, in the second half. BTW, she was the BWhite player of the Match.

We proved the adage "first 5, last five," pretty well, at least in the first half. We scored on a corner a minute into the match—then we scored 2 more in the last 2-3 minutes of the half, to go into halftime leading 3-0.

Senior Mass might have zapped our seniors just a bit. We were not at our best tonight. But we got solid enough performances to grab the EKL win.

Kate Kutey made her varsity debut tonight, giving us 30 good minutes in the second half at both left back and centerback.  And Gabi Cox cashed her first varsity goal from the field (she did score earlier in a PK shootout), collecting a great pass from Janky to Heying to her, before putting on a nice move to go by the keeper, before finishing the shot.

Mallory Heying collected a hat trick in assists tonight, pushing her team-leading assist total to 11.

We only have one regular season match left—Monday at Miege.

We are now 8-7-0.

STATS:

First Half:

Saints: First Half: Saints: Shots: 10 (5) Corners: (O'Keefe 2, Pigott)

38:34 Goza (Heying bends the corner right for Goza's center run and touch in)

2:03 Ramaekers (Heying bends another one right that hits down in the box before the backpost finish)

:37 Pigott (Throw from Moss targets O'Keefe who finds Marge's feet)

Huskies: Shots: 5 (2) Corners: 2

Second Half:

Saints:  Shots: 8 (4)  Corners: 2 (Pigott 2)

16:36 Cox (Kutey heads it down to Janky who reverses it to Mallory who finds Gabi)

Huskies:  9 (5) Corners: 1

Senior PinkOut Night

Game 14: 1 May, on Senior Night and PinkOut vs. BV West (1-0)

In the 2nd Week USA Today National Poll BV West stood #5 and since then has moved their record to 11 and no losses—well, until tonight when we were able to pin a loss on them.

And yes, Allyiah had to make two dynamic saves in that second half to preserve the shutout, but we once again could have made things a lot easier if we would have just finished a couple of the 6-7 beautiful chances we had. BWhite said, "gives us that many quality chances in a match, and I will take us to win the match every time."

I thought BV West was fantastic. I loved the way they moved the ball, the way the attacked the weak side of the field, and how they switched the point of attack so quickly and so frequently.  We played all of these highly ranked teams at the Tournament of Champions last weekend—I thought West was better than all of them.

Losing the coin toss could have worked out a lot worse than it did, as there was quite a wind during the first half; yet we kept them out of the net, as they settle for shot after shot from distance.  And we actually had 3 phenomenal scoring chances against the wind—a breakaway, a T-ball to the slot, and a perfectly executed throw-in. (The sun set, and the wind pretty much vanished for our half, but its leaving did make defending easier not having to go against it all half.)

I thought we would cash one breakaway and one deadball tonight—close, almost a perfect call. I just loved how Ram elevated to ram that header inside the post on the corner kick—just a great goal off a great service from Mallory.

BWhite named Ramaekers and Calvert as the Co-BWhite Players of the Match. Both had so much to do with this win.

But, I just have to mention Mallory's play at the 6. And I know we name her a lot because she is just having a tremendous season. But someone after the game said, "that was as fine a game as he had seen anyone play in an Aquinas uniform."  That's some high praise as we have had some really great games played over the years in Aquinas jerseys.

And Mom Ramaekers needs a BWhite award as well as she just put on quite a senior night.  She got help from Vicki Ryan, Michelle Kemp, and Beth Jackson.  And Kristen Deladarantaye helped with the amazing field decorations.  What a production and the girls supplied the fireworks.

Check out senior night highlights

We are 7-7 and beginning a run I am told.
